Social Media for the Solo-preneur
A brief introductory presentation followed by a group discussion about how people can use social media as a Solo-preneur for self-promotion.

Mark David Gerson, @markdavidgerson, presented. Mark is an enthusiastic and successful user of social media to market himself, his books, and his services. He has taught and coached writing as a creative and spiritual pursuit for 17 years in the U.S. and Canada, is an editor, a project consultant, and a script analyst.
Talking Points
• You want to be the type of person to build the trust and loyalty based off of quality, not quantity.
• Always be looking for people who might want to interview you to help build your brand.
• Don’t feel like you have to follow everyone back on twitter.
• Use Google Alerts to see if anyone brings up your brand, even use twitter alerts, too!
• Auto DM’s often send a sales link! That’s a no-no!
• Don’t post ENDLESS links, link after link – That’s NOT socializing.
• Focus on Quality – take time to get to know your early group of friends…converse, be friends.
• Social Media works like a dinner party, or a cocktail party, you just chat with everyone, and it takes time to get to know people.
• If you want to sell anything to anybody, you want them to like you… It’s called Social Media because it’s all SOCIAL!
• Twitter made it easy to meet people you didn’t have to know.
• You’re offering something of value – not the product, you’re offering yourself through social media.
• According to this video, people care more about the social media aspect of their business than their page rank in Search engines. (Video via @equalman)
